The Inner Tien-Shan is on the south of the Kyrgyz Range and the Issyk-Kul’ Basin and is rimmed on the southwest by the Fergana Range, on the south by the Kok-Shal Too Range, and on the east by the Akshiirak, a massif that separates the Inner Tien-Shan from the Central Tien-Shan.

People consider Shamsy gorge as the most beautiful of the canyons in the Kyrgyz range. The golden mask of the ancient beauty, Queen Shamsy, was found nearby. The wooded slopes and high mountain plateaus are home to a wide range of fauna and flora..

The trekking road goes via such places as the Saryla-Saz jailoo, Kochkor valley, the high passes Buchuk and Kum-Bel (3400 m) to Son-Kul Lake trough the Inner Tian-Shan, the heart of the country.

Tour Program:

Day 1 – Bishkek

Arrival to Bishkek. Transfer to Hotel. After rest a city tour in Bishkek. A visit to Osh bazaar, National Museum, Central Ala-Too square, Oak Park. Lunch and dinner in the local restaurants. Overnight in the Hotel.

Accommodation: hotel.

Day 2 – Shamshy gorge – Shamshy pass

After early breakfast leave Bishkek for Shamsy Gorge, 3-hour drive. Meet horseback guides’ team in Shamshy gorge. Picnic lunch. After lunch start tour towards Shamshy pass (3 570 meters). Dinner and overnight stay in the tents.

2-3 hours of horse trekking.

Accommodation: tents.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 3 – Saralasaz jailoo

Continue tour and cross the Shamshy pass. Descend to Saralasaz jailoo. The first jailoo Saralasaz offer beautiful views of the Kara Moinok and Sandyk mountains to the south. Eat dinner and stay overnight in the tent.

4-5 hours of horse trekking.

Day 4 – Ak-Bel jailoo – Kashka-Suu valley

This day you spend crossing wide-open pastures. Eat dinner in Ak-Bel jailoo, then take an evening walk over the hill into the beautiful Kashka-Suu River valley, where you can eat wild rhubarb and watch the alpenglow on the southern mountains. Overnight stay in tents.

4-5 hours of horse trekking.

Day 5 – Kochkor valley – Karakol river

After breakfast at Ak-Bel, gear up for a long day through nearly-empty country. Begin by traversing the western end of the Kochkor Valley through scrubby dry terrain. After crossing the fast Karakol River we will find a place for overnight. Dinner and overnight in the tent. 

4-5 hours of horse trekking.

Day 6 – Buchuk pass – Sook Valley – Kichi Saryk Valley

After breakfast in the tent continue horse riding by trekking 1000 meters over the Buchuk Pass (3400 m). On the other side, after a brief break for lunch on the trail, descend into the beautiful Sook Valley. Wild onions cover the high cold ridges, while lower down whole hillsides of wildflowers bloom. Eagles soar and marmots cry and scurry about. At day’s end, ford the Sook River and climb the green Kichi Saryk Valley for camp site. Overnight stay in tents. 

4-5 hours of horse trekking.

Day 7 – Kum-Bel Pass – Kolduu-Suu valley

After breakfast at Sook, detour to the next valley west, the Kum-Bel, for the best approach to the 3600 m Kum-Bel Pass.  From the pass, follow a ridge eastward and upward to the peak, 3656 m above sea level, with breathtaking 360 views and sheer drops to the north. Continue east, testing your horseback skills (or walking) down scree-covered hillsides, and eat lunch in a sheltered notch. Descend at last into the Kolduu-Suu valley, and follow it down between dandelion-covered mountains to your place, in Kolduu-Suu jailoo.
Overnight stay in tents or yurt. 

6-8 hours of horse trekking.

Accommodation: yurts.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 8 – Son-Kul lake

 After breakfast in Kolduu-Suu, head south to the Kochkor-Jumgal road. Meet with the driver on the road. Say Bye to your horse riding team. Drive to Son-Kul lake.  Dinner and overnight in the yurt in Son-Kul lake.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 9 – Son-Kul lake – Bishkek

After breakfast free time on Son-Kul. Later transfer to Bishkek.  Upon arrival farewell dinner in the local restaurant. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 10 – Departure day

Transfer to the airport. Fly home.

Meals: breakfast.

Folklore program

Level of difficulty: This tour is recommended for people with riding experience (riding time approximately 5-8 hours per day).

Conditions: It is necessary to bring a sleeping bag, warm clothes and trekking boots.

Single supplement only in Bishkek is 72 USD per person.

Supplement for folklore program in Bishkek is 70 USD per group.
